Old and Grey

Anna and I were joking around about how we won’t have the house to ourselves again for another 18 to 21 years. I lamented the fact that I’ll be old and grey before we have the house to ourselves again. Anna quickly asked, “How will we know if you’re grey?” That’s the smart-ass mother of Old and Grey

A Link to the Past

The other day, Anna pointed out that my favourite radio station, KPLU, now has a audio stream that is compatible with iTunes. I remember complaining about this the last time I donated to KPLU, back in 2001 or so. And I’m really, really glad they’ve decided to support iTunes. Now this makes it imperative that A Link to the Past

Cuddle Monkeys

Madeline and Agustus don’t always fight like brother and sister. Sometimes they’re asleep.

Broken Web Site

It seems our move to the wonderful TextDrive wasn’t without incident. Our Movable Type installation is missing a critical perl module which is making the home page misbehave a bit (showing more entries than I want) and the comments system seems to be entirely broken with a 412 error (Precondition failed). Brilliant

This morning I heard Diana Krall singing Temptation, a Tom Waits song from Frank’s Wild Years. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again now, sooner or later everyone who’s any good will cover a Tom Waits song. It turns out I actually own both albums. That’s even more brilliant.

We’ve Moved

Part of the reason for the move is that I’ll be able to run TurboGears on the TextDrive server and I get ssh We’ve Moved

I Don’t Feel Like a Valued Customer

The other day I was shocked to discover that the interest rate on my Citibank MasterCard was 17.5%. I called Citibank and asked the customer service representative why I had a worse interest rate than some people who never pay their bills and file bankruptcy (probably a slight exaggeration). His response was that my card I Don’t Feel Like a Valued Customer

No Phone Home

Anna wants me to get a cell phone so that she can keep track of my movements contact me in an emergency. Like a good husband, I agree to this request, but I stipulate that I want a phone that will sync with my Mac. Apple lists quite a few phones on their iSync compatibility No Phone Home

Delivering the Screens

We’re deep in the throws of releasing a new product. And I’m the guy building the user interface. While that’s fun, our rather over-ambitious schedule — delivering frozen code by 11 November — means I’ve had to crank out massive UI goodness in minimal time. This includes a complete framework for building user interfaces in Delivering the Screens
