I’ve been a software nerd since I was ten years old. I’m proud of what I accomplished in my thirty-five years building software — including ten years building iOS software for Apple — but when my wife, Caitlin, and I moved to Edinburgh in the autumn of 2024 with our five cats, I became fascinated with the history of our adopted home. The more I learned the more I pestered my wife with constant interruptions of “did you know random curious fact?”
When my daughter was little, she would demand a new story every night featuring a cast of recurring protagonists, each one not-so-subtly modelled on her. Bedtime couldn’t pass into slumbertime until I’d made up an adventure for her. Now I’m thrilled to make up adventures for myself. I hope she’ll get to read them.
