Wedding, Wee Watkins
This morning as Anna was getting ready for a family outing to the movies, she discovered that her rings were missing. She has 3 rings:
- The silver ring I gave her when she accepted me back into her life.
- The diamond engagement ring I gave her when she agreed to marry me.
- The wedding band I gave her when she said “I do”.
Each of these has emotional significance beyond simple monetary value. And each of these is irreplaceable.
Molly admitted to playing with the rings this morning while I was making breakfast. So far, we’ve recovered the silver ring and the wedding band.
Now, remember, each of these is irreplaceable. But frankly, the diamond engagement ring is rather more irreplaceable than the other two. With the exception of our cars, it’s the single most expensive item we own.
There’s probably a lesson to be learnt here.
Update: After spending most of the day tearing apart the house, we finally found the engagement ring. I’ve no idea how it wound up under Anna’s night table.
Yes, we’re weird.
Most folks have their honeymoon at the same time they get hitched
(well, technically, a couple of days later). But not us. No sirree.
We could have gone away in November to some sunny locale, where warm
blue waters and lush green foliage awaited us and we lounged about on a
pristine beach, drinking margaritas…
However, we decided instead to head off to the rolling countryside
of England. In June.
It is difficult to wait until then, but obviously necessary. At
least we have had some time to plan and save up some extra dollars to
be lost in the currency conversion process.
We will be leaving on May 25th, flying on Kuwait Airways
(Yes, I know- don’t say it. The planes are new, and they were offering
a significant promotion- $350 each roundtrip. So there.), and returning
June 8th.
While in England, we will be hiking the Cotswolds, and staying
in the following places:
Now, we just need to buy some rain gear!

Wedding
We’ve been remiss in getting the photographs from our wedding
finished. Now I understand what a wedding photographer gets paid
several thousand dollars to do: tweak the levels, clone bricks and
generally take good raw materials and from them create lasting
memories.
Anna and
I were married on Friday, 28 November at New York City Hall. In
attendance were all of our immediate family, Anna’s cousin Kim and her
husband Nick, and Anna’s Godfather and his wife.
We will be sending out cards for New Years that include a number of
4×6 prints of some of the highlights from the wedding. If Anna will
allow me, I’ll post some of them here once they are ready.
